STEPS believes that art in public spaces engages citizens to transform their local environment and build community. We call such work public space ARTivism, and seek to promote it by researching undocumented grassroots initiatives, facilitating knowledge exchange among the environmental, social and arts sectors, and producing capacity building programs and resources for veteran and emerging ARTivists. In service of our mission,we are working closely with community artists, activists, policy-makers and community members, to develop several projects that support the work of veteran ARTivists, and those who are interested in starting initiatives in their own communities, but who are unsure of where to begin. Please click the links to the right for further information. But first, visit our Virtual Commons where you will find a calendar of relevant events happening across Canada. Check back soon for the launch of our searchable ARTivist database, profiling initiatives from coast to coast, and our ARTivism resource library. |
