STEPS believes that art in public spaces engages citizens to transform their local environment and build community. We call such work public space ARTivism, and seek to promote it by researching undocumented grassroots initiatives, facilitating knowledge exchange among the environmental, social and arts sectors, and producing capacity building programs and resources for veteran and emerging ARTivists.
In service of our mission,we are working closely with community artists, activists, policy-makers and community members, to develop several projects that support the work of veteran ARTivists, and those who are interested in starting initiatives in their own communities, but who are unsure of where to begin.
